Role of Media Relations

customer relations: This is an extremely important piece of media relations. If a customer doesn’t trust or like you, they most likely will not buy your product or endorse your idea. A large part of a happy customer is “word of mouth.” If one person is happy with a product, they will tell their friend or neighbor and in turn that friend or neighbor will tell their friend or neighbor and so on.
crisis management employee relations: Think about this, if an employee was rude to you at a certain store or company are you likely to go there again? I wound not. It is important to pick good employees and keep the good ones happy. Employees represent your company to their friends, families, and the public.
investor relationships: The obvious reason that investor relationships are important is that they are the investors. They are contributing the financing for your venture. It is important to let them feel included. Make sure someone is designated to keep them informed and up to date.
marketing communications: This is the way companies communicate with the consumers. It is important to do research on their audience and figure out the best way to “sell” their product.
I think organizations should use every single one of these categories to make sure they are doing what they need to do. It benefits them as well as their company.

Television - A View into the World

Television is used by everyone. It is used for entertainment, education, advertising and news purposes. Viewers range from babies to elders and everyone in between. The television has come a long way from being a glorified radio to the 3D ones we have today. Television today is a universal outlet for news media. The president gives his speeches and announcements over the television, news breaks are aired, and shows come on for pure entertainment. Televisions have gone from heavy boxes of machinery to slim, sleek electronic pieces of art. It has brought the world to our fingertips. Students can learn about foreign countries, ocean life, and history events without leaving their classrooms. It is a way to stay connected to the world by news and information programming. It is an amazing invention and should be utilized in one way or another by everyone.

Blogging - Journaling to the Masses

A blog is an online journal written for public viewing. They can be written on just about anything. There are blogs on crafting, politics, cooking, history, personal life, etc. Blogs are also like an beginning way of designing a webpage. You can make your own backgrounds and layouts. Some blogs end up being viewed by just a few people and some blogs become so popular that they have hundreds of thousands of followers. “The early 2000s were a period of growth for blogs. In 1999, according to a list compiled by Jesse James Garrett, there were 23 blogs on the internet. By the middle of 2006, there were 50 million blogs according to Technorati‘s State of the Blogosphere report. To say that blogs experienced exponential growth is a bit of an understatement,” (Chapman, C. 2011). Blogging is all about what you are interested in writing about. There are, however, some basic tips to follow in order to run a successful blog. Your blog should have a catching title, it must be reader friendly, have some pictures to pull in the readers, use a video when possible, and keep it simple. There are so many great things that can be accomplished through a blog and even some business get started that way. I definitely say, give it a try.

Facebook

Facebook was a media outlet designed initially for businessmen and students to make contacts and market themselves. It has now turned into one of the biggest social media sites in the world. “Created in 2004, by 2007 Facebook was reported to have more than 21 million registered members generating 1.6 billion page views each day (Needham & Company, 2007),” (Ellison, N., Steinfield, C., & Lampe, C. 2007). “Fundamental features to the experience on Facebook are a person’s Home page and Profile. The Home page includes News Feed, a personalized feed of his or her friends updates. The Profile displays information about the individual he or she has chosen to share, including interests, education and work background and contact information. Facebook also includes core applications – Photos, Events, Videos, Groups, and Pages – that let people connect and share in rich and engaging ways. Additionally, people can communicate with one another through Chat, personal messages, Wall posts, Pokes, or Status Updates,” (http://www.facebook.com/press/info.php?factsheet).

The Print Press - The Beginning of Media

The printing press was really the true start of media. It was a way to get multiple pieces of information to large amounts of people. The true definition of the printing press is “A machine that transfers lettering or images by contact with various forms of inked surface onto paper or similar material fed into it in various ways. The device is used for printing many copies of a text on paper.” A main purpose of the printing press was the publishing of books. In the beginning, it made text books which in turn made it easier and more consistent to education people. “The printing press certainly initiated an "information revolution" on par with the Internet today,” (Kreis, S. 2000). Johannes Gutenberg, a former stonecutter and goldsmith, Gutenberg devised an alloy of lead, tin and antinomy that would melt at low temperature, cast well in the die, and be durable in the press. It was then possible to use and reuse the separate pieces of type, as long as the metal in which they were cast did not wear down, simply by arranging them in the desired order. The mirror image of each letter (rather than entire words or phrases), was carved in relief on a small block. Individual letters, easily movable, were put together to form words; words separated by blank spaces formed lines of type; and lines of type were brought together to make up a page. Since letters could be arranged into any format, an infinite variety of texts could be printed by reusing and resetting the type. Gutenberg, with his development of the print press, was able to print the famous Gutenberg Bible.
